Einstein’s Dreams
Book Jacket

This project is an unsolicited redesign of the book jacket for Alan Lightman’s novel Einstein’s Dreams. Throughout this fictional novel, Lightman explores time theory and relativity with a collection of dreams from a young Albert Einstein. Using warped concentric spheres, I am showing the volatility of time, and the balance of order and chaos within time theory. I am also using the circles to hint at the idea of a never ending tunnel, similar to the idea that time is eternal.

The circle graphic was created with scanner manipulation, inspired by Bruno Munari and Xerography.

Creating a successful hierarchy between type and image, and within the type itself, was the most challenging part of this project. This project was like being given 70% of the pieces to a puzzle (all of the copy) and then figuring out how they best fit together and then filling in the other pieces.
